Sansmarana- A Memoir

This project began with a simple idea: to capture the emotional qualities of ancestral homes and reinterpret them for contemporary life.

Set within a three-acre estate of farmland and cashew groves in Karjat, this residence is inspired by the nostalgia of ancestral homes and the timeless appeal of slow living. Reimagining vernacular architecture through a contemporary lens, the design balances authenticity, craftsmanship, and modern comfort.

A palette of repurposed clay tiles, native basalt stone, teak wood, and woven cane creates warmth and character, while verandahs, courtyards, and open living spaces blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Thoughtfully crafted to foster connection with nature and memory, the home unfolds as a refined retreat rooted in simplicity and place.

A contemporary sanctuary where nostalgia, materiality, and landscape come together in perfect harmony.
