Villa by the Backwaters

We envisioned this residence as a contemporary tropical retreat shaped by the unique character of Kerala’s backwaters. From the outset, the design sought to create a seamless connection between architecture and landscape, allowing light, breeze, water, and nature to inform the living experience.

Drawing from the warmth of vernacular architecture, we combined climate-responsive planning, exposed brick, natural timber, handcrafted details, and generous double-height volumes to create spaces that feel both rooted and contemporary. Large openings, shaded transitions, and naturally ventilated interiors strengthen the home’s connection to its surroundings while enhancing comfort and sustainability.

The result is a timeless sanctuary where local craftsmanship, modern living, and the beauty of the landscape exist in effortless harmony.
